ECOLOGY ACTION CENTRE GOES TO THE BEACH
If you haven’t noticed the washed up pop cans, water bottles, fishnet scraps and busted lobster traps along the Nova Scotia shoreline lately, you haven’t been surfing.
The topic of trash will no doubt be one of the talking points at a workshop that’s being hosted by the Ecology Action Centre (EAC) on Thursday.
The one-day workshop is titled “True Grit: Seeking a New Vision For Healthy Beaches In Nova Scotia” and will be held at the Oak Island Resort on the South Shore.
The goal of the workshop will be to bring together concerned parties to share information, encourage collaboration and help the EAC identify priorities for better beach management in the province.
This event is part of a larger EAC project that includes a strategic report, public talks and other activities to increase public awareness and improve the management of Nova Scotia’s unique and threatened beach systems.
Among the groups involved include Surfriders Association of Nova Scotia (SANS), Bird Studies Canada, Natural Resources Canada and the Department of Natural Resources.
